Therapy and coaching for individuals

Workshops and consultancy for organisations

Philippa Welsh

UKCP reg. MRCVS

With 20 years of veterinary experience, and advanced training in psychotherapeutic counselling, I have real insight into both the challenges you face and the path to healing and growth.

I know what it's like when veterinary work becomes overwhelming - I experienced burnout during my own residency training. Going through that difficult period, then finding my way back to thriving in the vet profession, taught me how transformative  good support can be.

Through my work with vet community members as a dual-qualified coach and psychotherapeutic counsellor, I recognise how effective therapy can be when the therapist truly understands our professional culture and challenges.

I've walked both paths - facing the challenges of veterinary life and finding ways through them. I understand why our profession can be so demanding, and I know what effective support looks like.

I offer one-to-one therapy and coaching for individuals.

For organisations, I offer bespoke group workshops and consultancy - please enquire for details, contact me here.

Psychotherapeutic counselling

I offer you a trusted, confidential relationship where:

  • the focus is on you, your situation and how you feel about it
  • you can fully articulate your thoughts and emotions, without being judged
  • other perspectives are offered that may challenge your assumptions or limiting beliefs

This enables you to:

  • clarify your understanding of your situation
  • help you to see the 'wood for the trees'
  • find options to solve your problem/find a way ahead (without being directed towards particular solutions)
  • move from surviving to thriving

How I work

I'm a relational psychodynamic therapist, which means we'll explore your patterns and how past experiences show up in your current work and relationships. You'll be able to tell your story and feel heard and understood. This is particularly helpful when exploring workplace dynamics - how you react and respond to others around you.

I adapt my approach to what you need. Some clients benefit from exploring deeper patterns rooted in childhood experiences. Others need more present-focused, practical work. Most need both at different times. I'm trauma-trained and use gentle, body-aware approaches when working with difficult experiences.

How does it work?

  • Remote sessions via Zoom or phone
  • 50 minutes, usually weekly at the same time
  • Long-term (open-ended) or short-term (time-limited) depending on your needs
  • I accommodate rota patterns where possible, though regular timing works best
  • Fees:
  • Sliding scale £60-75 (self-assessed - if you are early career or financially stressed, choose the lower end; if you are financially comfortable, choosing the high end helps keep low-cost spaces available)
  • Low-cost spaces: £45 (limited availability for those on low income - please enquire)

Coaching

Coaching is action-oriented and future-focused. By working with thoughts and behaviours to achieve specific goals in a structured way, I help you to set and achieve goals for the future. These might be career direction decisions, leadership challenges or personal difficulties.

This work is particularly valuable for practice owners, clinical directors, head nurses, and emerging leaders. I focus on developing your emotional intelligence to help you navigate team dynamics, difficult conversations, change management, and build confidence in your leadership role - all while understanding the unique pressures of veterinary leadership.

How does it work?

  • Sessions are remote via video conferencing (Zoom) or phone.
  • Coaching is usually carried out within a 'time-limited', short-term contract (e.g., 8 sessions)
  • Sessions are usually fortnightly or monthly, or on an 'ad hoc' basis
  • Fees:
  • Standard 50 min coaching session: £75
  • Extended (90min) sessions £120.

Confidential Support

All sessions are strictly confidential. I will not share information from our work with anyone else except my professional supervisor, or in exceptional circumstances required by law.
